To start tagging your files, you simply select files or folders in Finder and drag and drop them to the menu bar icon, the popover window or press the shortcut ⇧⌘E. If the window is closed the popover will automatically open with the files listed, after pressing the shortcut or dropping onto the menu bar icon.

The default shortcut ⇧⌘E can be changed, if needed, in System Preferences - Keyboard - Shortcuts - Services - Add to Little Tagger.

When adding files, the hierarchy of folders is flattened. That means, files located in subfolders are extracted and put next to each other. The files are cached, in case you accidentally close the popover, and they will be restored, if you open the popover again by clicking on the menu icon. If you drop another folder or other files, the list of files will be overwritten. If you want to clear the list of files, select Clear Files
from the action menu at the top right or press ⇧⌘⌫. You can also remove individual files by first selecting them and then choosing Clear Selected Files
from the action menu or pressing the delete
(⌫) key.
To filter the list of files after they were dropped, for example if you only want to tag files of a particular type like images, you can select a file type from the Any File
drop down at the top right of the list. Specifying a filter will automatically update the list of files, so you can immediately see, which files will be tagged. In addition, you can filter by file name or extension. Learn more about Filters.
To specify the tags, that you want to add to (or remove from) files, start typing the name of the tag in the text field. Since you have already imported your tags, the app will auto-suggest tags based on the characters you type. If the tag does not exist yet or you need to create a new tag, you will see a little popup upon pressing Enter
, that allows you to edit the name and giving it a color. Place the cursor after the tag name and press the delete
key (⌫), if you want to remove the tag from the field. Learn more about tags in Preferences .

Files of subfolders are not included by default. To include these you need to enable the Include Subfolder Items
switch. Including subfolders will automatically update the list of files, so you can immediately see, which files will be tagged.
Little Tagger is able to not only add tags to files and folders, but also remove tags from files and folders. You enable the removal of tags simply by toggling the Remove Tags
switch. If the tag field above is empty, it will remove all tags from files and folders. If you want to remove specific tags from files and folders instead, you enter those ones in the tag field above.
By default, file aliases are excluded when tagging files. If you also want to tag file aliases, turn on the Include File Aliases
switch.
Upon first launch, the app is setup to execute tagging manually. That means, you have to press the Execute
button in the bottom right to see your tags added or removed from files and folders. To better suit your workflow, you can choose other options. Learn more about Execution Options.
